Languages
Let your team use SmartChef in the language they're most comfortable with. Here's how to turn it on and how it works day to day.
Overview
SmartChef can display your day-to-day forms in more than one language at the same time. Once an admin turns it on, anyone who logs in can pick their own language from the globe icon, anytime, and change it whenever they like.
Reports, Supervisor Review and Sign-off History stay in English, so whoever's reviewing your records always sees them the same way. Your kitchen stays fully HACCP compliant no matter what language a form is filled in, because the same record is being kept underneath either way.
Included on Every Plan
Multi-language support is included on every SmartChef plan at no extra cost.
Turning It On
Multi-language support is switched on by an account admin, in the Setup Hub.
Enabling Languages
-
Go to Setup Hub, then Languages
Opens the language settings.
-
Turn on "Enable Additional Languages"
This activates multi-language support for your account.
-
Tick the languages you want available
English is always on. Select which other languages your team can choose from.
-
Done
Your team will see a language option appear next time they open SmartChef.
Available Languages
SmartChef is multilingual. When you enable additional languages in Setup Hub, you'll see the full list of what's available. Your team can then pick from any language you've turned on.
If the language your team needs isn't there, just let us know — we're adding new languages all the time. Email hello@smartchef.ie or give us a call.
How Staff Choose Their Language
Once an admin has enabled at least one additional language, anyone who logs in can pick their own.
Switching Language
-
Look for the globe icon
It's near the top of the screen.
-
Tap and choose a language
Pick from the list of available languages.
-
SmartChef switches straight away
No need to log out or restart.
How Translations Work
What Gets Translated
The day-to-day forms your team fills in: deliveries, fridge and freezer temperatures, cooking, cooling and reheating, hot and cold holding, thawing, thermometer checks, transport and delivery, and cleaning.
Reports, Supervisor Review and Sign-off History stay in English, so whoever reviews the records always sees them the same way.
The food items and cleaning tasks you've entered yourself (like "Chicken Breast" or "Prep Surfaces") are translated automatically the first time they're used. This happens in the background, usually within a few moments of adding a new item.
Fixing a Translation
If a translation for one of your own food or cleaning items doesn't look right, an admin can correct it.
Editing a Translation
-
Go to Setup Hub
Then the relevant section (Hot & Cold Hold, Cleaning, etc.).
-
Open the item you want to fix
Find the item with the incorrect translation.
-
Edit the text for the language that needs correcting
Your change is saved as soon as you move to the next field.
Turning It Off
If you turn off "Enable Additional Languages" in Setup Hub, SmartChef reverts to English only for everyone.
